Antaragni Idol, the most popular of the musical competitions of Antaragni, is taking a giant leap this time. Having dealt with some of the extremely talented singers, now it is ready to put all the young voices of India to test. Yes, Antaragni Idol is about to take place at a national level this time, that too in association with Shankar Mahadevan Academy!!! With huge prize money and other goodies to win, expectations are shooting into the sky this time. Be it a sweet mesmerizing ghazal or a scintillating bright qawwali; be it folk or filmi; you can showcase your song on our platform. So, unleash the singer within you. Come and gauge your talent with some of the gifted children of mother India.
There are two rounds in the competition
1. Prelims:

4.) Participant can sing a song in any of the Indian Languages and it can be a movie song, an album song
or his/ her original composition
5.) The audition serves as a gateway to reach the finale of “Antaragni Idol ‘14”.Participants selected in
the audition will move into the finals to be held in Antaragni ’14 in IIT Kanpur on 12th
6.) Results of the contestants will be communicated by email and phone to qualified candidates by 22nd
of September.
7.) Participants will receive a recorded audio feedback from expert teachers with recommendations on
areas of improvement.
Terms and Conditions:
• Participant should be a college student or a college pass-out and he/she must not be more than
30 years old. (In any case of suspicion, the participant may be asked to show his/her age proof)

• You can upload/record only a single rendition of your song for feedback. Please ensure that

• Each submission gives you access to feedback for one rendition only. Multiple songs will be
considered as separate entries and the contest enrollment fee will be per entry.
• The academy is not liable for refunding the cost of expert feedback once payment has been
made
• Any complaints related to the feedback will be addressed according to the discretion of the
Academy
• Shortlisted contestants must bring the karaoke track of their song in mp3 format for the final
• The decision of the winner will be done on the basis of final performance in IIT Kanpur campus
• The uploaded content will not be returned to the student and will be archived. The academy
reserves the right to use the rendition as it deems fit.
• Anybody from anywhere in the world can apply. The Academy will not be liable for any travel,
travel related issues or damages arising out of travel.

b.) Prelims during the festival:
You can register during the festival by paying an entry fee of 300/-
1.) The participants have to sing a song of their own choice.
2.) Time limit: 3 minutes.
3.) Participant can bring a karaoke (sing along track) or can play an accompanying instrument him/
herself or can take the help of his/her friend for that. However none of these is a compulsion, i.e. the
participant is free to sing without any accompaniment or music if he/she chooses to.
4.) Maximum 2 accompanists allowed. No musical instrument will be provided by us. If participant
wishes to use karaoke, the track of it must be handed over to the coordinators beforehand in a disk or
pen drive.
5.) No backing vocals are allowed.
6.) The decision of the judges and the coordinators shall be final and binding in all cases.
Judgment Criteria:
Judgment is based on the voice quality and the vocal abilities of the singer. No consideration shall be
given to accompaniments or karaoke.
2. Grand Final:
There will be two rounds in the finals for those who are qualified either through Online Auditions or
Prelims during the festival
a) Participants choice round:
1. Sing a song of your own choice.
2. Time limit: 4 minutes (excluding sound check).
3. The participants can use karaoke, the track for which must be handed over to the coordinators
beforehand in a data CD or a pen drive.

b) Judges Choice Round:
1. You have to sing a song of judge’s choice.
2. No time limit.
3. The participants can use karaoke, the track for which must be handed over to the coordinators

1.Maximum Participation per college: No constraint (subject to availability of seats)
2.There will be only one round in this competition.
3.More than one piece is allowed within given time limit.
4.Time Limit: 8 minutes (including sound check)
5.Instruments provided: Tabla, Harmonium, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Synthesizer, Drum kit. The participant is supposed to bring any extra instruments, if needed. The maximum number of accompanists allowed is 2 (including the lead performer).
6.At no point of time throughout the performance a person shall play more than one instrument.
7.No one shall sing.
8.Accompaniments with respect to Taal and Sur (Lehra with percussion instruments and Taal with Tune instruments) are compulsory for classical performances.
9.A flutist can use multiple flutes, keyboardist can change patches, and percussionist can use multiple percussion instruments within the same performance if he/she wishes to.
10.Guitar processors, Samplers, Midi Programming, Arpeggios, Loops from computer or any other electronic device or any software related sound processing is strictly not allowed.
11.The decision of the Judges and the coordinators shall be final and binding in all cases.
Judgment criteria:
1.Judgment will be based on the ability of the lead performer alone. Other musicians will be given no credit.
2.Judgment will be based on the ABILITY of the lead performer, rather than how huge or wide the sound is.

A simple competition with simple rules and one of the most liked and attended events of all the Musical competitions of Antaragni – Pair on Stage calls on stage a couple, and gives them the freedom to perform whatever they wish to!! Any combination of instruments or vocals or both is allowed.

Team size
1.Maximum Participation: 3 duos from a single college/institute
2.There is only one round in the competition where the couple has to give a performance of their own choice.
3.Time Limit: 6 minutes (including sound check)
4.Instruments provided: 1 Drum Kit, 1 Synthesizer, 1 Acoustic Guitar, 1 Tabla pair. The participants are required to bring any instrument they need other than those mentioned above. No bar on the number of instruments!
5.No extra accompanists or karaoke will be allowed.
6.Same member singing and playing an instrument is allowed.
7.Any member changing instruments in-between would not be given any extra time, and any such time will be included in the performance time.
8.The decision of the Judges and the coordinators shall be final and binding in all cases.

1.Coordination between the team members
2.Individual mastery of the piece, with equal emphasis on both the performers in a team, shall be given due consideration.

Human Voice undoubtedly sounds better than any other musical instrument. Saying that, what about an artistic blend of such voices? Ears are getting eager right? 6.Instruments provided: Harmonium, Acoustic Guitar, Drum Kit, Synthesizer and a Tabla pair will be provided. The team is supposed to bring any other instruments if needed. However, not more than three instruments can be played at any point of time.
7.The team may sing more than one song within the time limit.

1.Participants: Minimum 5 and maximum 10 members in the band and maximum 2 bands from a single college/institute. There should not be any common band member.
2.There will be only one round in this competition.
3.Time Limit: 15 minutes (including sound check)
4.Instruments provided: Drum kit, Acoustic Guitar, Synthesizer, Bass Guitar, Harmonium, Tabla. The performers are supposed to bring any other acoustic instruments (like flute, sitar or dholak), if needed.
5.Synthesizer can be used in place of piano and in absence of Acoustic Bass Guitar, Electronic Bass (or even Bass from synthesizer) can be used.
6.No electric instruments of any other kind are allowed.
7.Other electronic devices like Guitar/ Vocal processors, Samplers, Midi programming, Arpeggios, Loops from computer or any other electronic device or any software related sound processors are strictly not allowed.
8.Participants will not be provided with sustain/damper pedals. They are expected to bring any such additional accessories they require.
9.Language – English, Hindi or a mixture of both.
10.Genres like Dub step, Rock, Grunge or Growl are strictly not allowed. Indian pure Classical pieces are not allowed but semi-classical songs are allowed.
11.Original Composition includes – song composition, musical arrangement and song writing.
12.The decision of the Judges and the coordinators shall be final and binding in all cases.
Judgment criteria:
1.Level of difficulty, vocal/instrumental ability, tonal quality, coordination between team members and overall performance.
2.Improvisation, ingenuity will be given extra credit. However, Original Compositions altogether will carry substantially higher weightage.
3.Originality – Innovation in the interpretation of works, presenting self-compositions.
